I put my trusty V1 Gen2™ and a brand new Uniden R8 on opposite sides of the dash (yeah, yeah, I know, don’t run two detectors at once, but inquiring minds want to know). I turned both to their most sensitive settings and turned off all blocks and verifiers. I was after max detection range. In a highly unscientific test, the V1 was a half second to four seconds faster than the R8 on every threat.
The R8 even missed entirely some known K threats. Driving next to a Honda with Blind-Spot Monitoring, R8 sang like a canary; V1 stayed silent. Once you see the difference in performance, there is no going back.
Color displays are nice and all, but the V1 is still king when it comes to detecting signals and ignoring noise.
