Timing Was Everything

Out here in the Palouse, a distinct geographic region spread over parts of several states in the Northwest, there’s nothing doing except wheat fields and the very occasional traveler.  Hilly, winding highway 12 between Dayton, Washington, and the junction of Highway 127, is a two-lane blacktop, speed limit 60 mph.  LEO has his hiding spots in the lows and on blind curves.

I was behind a van doing just under the speed limit, waiting for the dotted lines to give me the option to pass.  The road was clear and I started to slip into the left lane when I saw a white explorer up ahead with no markings.  I was a bit cautious after spotting it. He, on the other hand, was completely incautious; he blasted me before I could accelerate to passing speed.  I eased back behind the van.  If he had counted to three, he would have had me at 70 or so.  But he didn’t and V1 told on him.  Good work, V1.
